Hollywood, FL: Before there was my love of NKOTB (yes, there was a life before that), my other true love was The Monkees. Specifically, Davy Jones. I discovered him while watching re-runs of The Monkees TV show on MTV in 1986. Only problem was that I didn't understand the concept of a re-run, so when I saw him at the Omaha Civic Auditorium (for The Monkees 20th Anniversary Tour), I couldn't understand why my 21 year old TV boyfriend was.... OLD.
Regardless, my love prevailed and I continued to adorn my walls with his posters and my 9 year old body with an oversized t-shirt with his face smiling dreamily up at me.
My big moment came during a stop on his book tour (yep, he wrote an autobiography titled "So They Made A Monkee Out Of Me") when I bravely asked him for a hug. He responded, in his perfect Davy Jones British accent, "schoua" and proceeded to reach over the 8' table separating us, embraced me and kissed my cheek. In a daze, I walked off the riser in the middle of the mall, sat down... and cried. This was my first encounter with real, true, celebrity love.
Needless to say, when my favorite piano player told me her friend, David Jones, would be visiting her at the show tonight, I couldn't help the butterflies in my stomach knowing I would once again be face to face with my favorite Monkee.

He was a bit older than I remembered (though I suppose 21 years will do that to you) and has he always been THAT short? Regardless, as soon as I heard that voice, with that perfect Davy Jones British accent, I realized no matter how much time has passed, I still have a special place in my heart for my first real, true, celebrity love.
