Los Angeles, CA: One of the perks of my job and lifestyle is the ability to work from anywhere. As in, if I have my laptop and my iPhone, I can accomplish the same tasks from my home office as I can from the middle of the desert (provided there's some sort of WiFi connection I can steal).
Since my schedule is fairly flexible, I'm trying my best to take advantage of this time I have, go places and do things just because. Isn't that one of the main reasons I have this kind of career? There is one school of thought where you work hard your whole life, save your money, then retire and do the things you've dreamed of. But if you can work hard now AND do the things you dream of at the same time... why shouldn't you (especially if you are single with no children)? I probably won't save the same amount of money as those others will, but then again, who knows how long I'll be on this planet for anyway.
However, my attention span is pretty short. The idea of going to a beach for a week and just lounging is romantic, but the reality is that if I'm there, I want to do something -- take pictures, read a book -- hell, even just take a nap! I'm still working on the activity of "be-ing" rather than "do-ing," but in the meantime, I'm enjoying the idea of just dropping by. When I go out and do the things my life allows me to, it doesn't have to necessarily be a big production or for a long amount of time. In fact, I'm really loving the idea of the quick and spontaneous pop in.

On my way to
Israel, I had an 8 hour layover in Newark. I took the opportunity to jump on a train and head into the
city, where I spent the better part of the day at the most amazing "boudoir-style boutique" EVER. This is place where the personal attention is so appreciated, I wanted to either buy them a drink or give them a hug. I never knew I could find brassieres that were so pretty and lacy and comfortable... and fit all of me so well! Plus, their website is
www.thelittleflirt.com. Can it be any more tailored to me? Once my purchases were made, I met with a friend for a quick drink and headed back to EWR for my overnight flight to the Holy Land.
This week, I jumped on the road with my
former boss, two
of my
musical idols and my
best friend to enjoy some shows without working (ish), take some photos and be re-energized (more on that later; still processing). Since I was out on the west coast already, I decided to extend my trip a bit to catch up with some other friends and reconnect with my old stomping grounds. Though my time here is limited, I made my way over to my favorite LA find... a little tea garden tucked away from the traffic-filled streets of LA. Formerly known as Elixir, it is now called
Dr. Tea's Tea Garden & Herbal Exporium. Hot as it may be, there is something refreshing about sitting under a palm frond ceiling fan, sipping on Green matcha Iced Frostea, admiring the Asian tea garden decor and free internet.
In addition to enjoying the tales of international travels and you-couldn't-make-that-up show stories, I'm learning to stock pile these little moments where I took the time to just drop by.
