Nashville, TN: I was driving to Fido today and was thinking of Lennox. In fact, I've been dreaming of her lately, even though I haven't met her yet. So I called my friend, Kortney, and left a message. "Is she here yet?" I ask. "I have a feeling today's the day. Don't know why, probably because I'm just impatient, but I really think it's gonna be today." After ordering the veggie scramble (with egg whites and hold the hash browns, please) and a cup of hot tea (no coffee until Easter), I settle into a table by the window, facing busy 21st Ave., and open up my inbox.
There's the note I've been waiting for:

Meet your god daughter lennox esmee wilson! She was born this morning and weighs in at 5 pounds 11 ounces.
My eyes immediately blur from tears as I stare at the sweet face of this little girl who will become a huge part of my life and who already (from one picture!) has a hold on my heart. Weeks ago, my friends, Kortney and Dave (yes, THE Kortney & Dave of the soon-to-be-famous "
Meet The Wilsons"), asked me if I would hold the honor of being the Godmother of their soon-to-be-born-and-adopted daughter, Lennox. Granted, I think I caught Kort in a weak moment after a Celine Dion concert (whom she adores, being from Canada, eh), but I believe I have a pretty strong resume since I am already Godmother to 13 year old Arielle, in Omaha.
This moment is so sweet to me for so many reasons:
1. because there's another little person in my life that can come to me and ask questions or get advice or talk to when maybe mom & dad just wouldn't understand
2. because I retain the title "Aunt Carolyn" which I would never have if I either choose not to get married or marry someone without siblings
3. because I am now accountable to someone else, so I can't just check out of life, even when it seems too tough to play the game anymore
4. because I am now a part of the Wilson family forever... whether they like it or not :)
5. because this makes me realize how real God's love is.
I am so truly blessed to have this opportunity and can't wait to meet her and hold her myself.
Welcome to the world, sweet Lennox!
