Gray in Gateshead

Gateshead, England: Somehow, even with our first day off, I wasn't able to catch up -- on sleep, on work, on photographing -- so I tried to dabble in a bit of all of all of them. Fortunately (I suppose), it was our first rainy day on the trip so far, so after a nap, a bite and a stroll, I headed back to the hotel (right before the rain began), where I could hole up get a bit of work done. But before the working began, I did a bit of skyping, first with the parental unit and then with the boy. Even though it's not the real thing, it's so nice to just see a face and a sweet smile. It really makes you feel like you're not alone on the other side of the world.

Fighting the urge to burrow into my covers for one more nap, I did my best to prep the next few shows (and get myself organized for the next bit of work I have lined up right after this is over). For dinner, I met up with the hilariously British bus driver for some nosh and wine (and a lesson on rhyming slang... to come in a future blog posting, I'm sure).

Finally, show day, I realize I've not been in Gateshead, but in fact, I've been staying in Newcastle the whole time, across the river from Gateshead. Had I known (and not drank a bottle or two of fine wine), I may have had something more appropriate.

Great way to start the day, don't you think?

rainy day from the hotel room -- overlooking the Millennium bridge and the gig (silver building to the right)

out for a meal with Jonnie, bus driver / merch manager / seemingly mysterious man in the corner (quite friendly tho)

typical show meal: chicken tikki masala from a local indian restaurant, eaten at the production office, right after soundcheck

getting a exercise my creative side as well...
