Stepping into Scotland

Glasgow, Scotland: One of my favorite moments of the day is waking up on the bus and looking out the window to find out what the day’s landscape will be. (Though one of my least favorite moments is also waking up on the bus in the morning in general since I’m usually exhausted… but I digress.)

Today’s view was of a busy street in downtown Glasgow. After scoping out the club, I decided to forgo the shower (who really needs to shower EVERY day?) and take a quick walk down the street and snap a few shots before load in.

The first thing that caught my eye was what looked to be a pile of snow on the street. Though it’s getting a bit chillier in the area (mid 50s), it is definitely too warm for snow. Come to find out, the “snow” was actually foam spilling out from the club the night before. I suppose nothing completes a good rave without a heaping pile of foam.

Next on my trip, I noticed “The Pound Store.” Now, I know what a pound is (and am reminded of it each time I buy my local Starbucks!), but somehow the meaning of the word and the store title didn’t quite compute in my brain. Did they sell pounds? Did they pound things? Looking closer I read the fine print, “Every Item A Pound.” OHHHH – you mean, like, the DOLLAR Store?! I get it! (And then off to get some coffee to try to wake up a bit more.)

After a small vanilla café latte (though tasted strangely and deliciously very much like hot chocolate), I headed back to the club, spotting the Bank of Scotland (which reminded me that I was actually in another country),

and a man selling the local news. Not anything entirely interesting on a Friday afternoon but if you don’t see it every day, it’s a nice way to remember the moment in the world.

Back at the work place, the show went on as planned and I was intrigued at and excited by the fact that The Plug held one of the UK’s largest disco balls. It’s the little things in life… or in this case, the big things… that truly make the day.
