musings from the road: Basement Discoveries

So, my parents' moved into a new place and along with them came all the things I left behind from childhood. Boxes of stuffed animals and collectible dolls, first communion gifts and high school graduation photos, and, of course, heaps and heaps of NKOTB memorabilia.

I figured today would be the perfect day to start digging through the rich history of my past, but I got stuck on one perfectly organized binder from 1994, containing Asabiyah Meeting Minutes.

Asabiyah (or, more formerly, The Sisterhood of Asabiyah Psi), was a group I was in during my time at Emerson. We were an "intercultural women's organization, promoting cultural diversity, sexual equality and community service." We wouldn't become a Greek sorority, which made us a pack of stubborn females who refused to conform. Yet, we had an "inheritance process," had weekly meetings and liked to party just as much as those other Thetas and Betas. And we were awesome.

Having a few very organized members meant we had very organized meetings with very detailed notes. And one of these very organized alumni happened to store these notes in her parents' basement for the last 15 years. Tonight, my Christmas gift is to share some of the good deeds and hilarities of our little group with my sisters of Asabiyah Psi and to you, my faithful blog readers (both of you).

Members Present: D'Annette, Michelle, Carolyn, Krishna, Kate, Carla, Ayeshee, Bo, Jen, Jessaka, Maria, Callie, Medha, Tracy and Raye

Lisa wants to do more community service and perhaps fuse focus with the community service topic rather than just donate money to a certain organization.

Maria announces that we currently have $48.67 in the treasury and asks for donations. Kate gives $1, Tracy-$2, Jessaka-$2, Callie-$2, Bo-$0.65.

Krishna brings up Lithuanian celebration and Raye brings up battered women ralley on Thursday at the Statehouse.

Jessaka announces that there will be a step rehearsal at 8:30pm in the Fensgate dining commons. The talent showcase is October 29th.

RETREAT

Jen's desire for liquor at retreat nixed.

Carolyn gave Laurie (advisor) a letter informing her on changes and new info regarding Asabiyah. Carolyn tells of spotting an alcohol cabinet. Is Jackie really a lush? Snelly receives applause for plugging Asabiyah Psi to Jackie.

Kate-"I've been a bitch -- sorry but I'm tired of always being stuck in the bad guy position and unfortunately that is the position I've taken because no one else will do it."

Carolyn suggests getting sloppy drunk on the 17th then ditched the idea. She also said she is going to see Donnie on Thursday.
