Calgary, AB: So with one little post and a few emails and status updates sent out to a few friends, I was able to collect a little bit of money for my favorite charity.
Actually, let me rephrase that a bit.
Thanks to the
Causes feature on Facebook, I set up a page for the nonprofit I sometimes volunteer at and always get love from,
Magdalene/Thistle Farms. With the incredible generosity of my friends and family, I raised an amazing
$2,085 for the brave, funny, loving and real women of the program.
I am truly blown away by the unselfishness of those in my life -- from people I haven't spoken to in over 17 years (yes, I'm THAT old) to my favorite band member (you know who you are!). Everyone took the time and money to not only give to this organization, but more importantly,
LEARN about it. It is moments like these that make me feel
so loved and can prove that just a simple note (or in this case, a simple Facebook feature) can truly make a difference.
In no particular order, I would like to thank, from the bottom of my 35 year old heart:
*4 people I went to high school with
*2 people I went to college with
*5 bosses (past & present) whom I totally respect and love
*1 person I met through my blog
*1 person I met on a plane
*5 people from my hometown that I'm related to... or at least should be!
*1 person who works at a book publishing company
*1 person who works at a radio station
*4 people who work at a record label, 1 person who works at a booking agency & 1 person who is a promoter rep (you all could put on a show together!)
*4 people who play guitar, piano, fiddle & guitar (you all could play a show that the above people are putting on!)
*1 person with red dreadlocks
*1 person with a British accent
*1 person who lives in Grand Rapids
*1 person who lives in Chattanooga
*1 person who lives in Venice
*1 person I went to Israel with
*1 person I danced in Vegas with
*2 people I work on shows once a year with
*1 person I spend weekends in the mountains with
*1 person I spent time in prison with
*1 person who handles money
*1 person who handles babies
*1 person who works at another nonprofit
*1 person who once hurt me and I forgave
*1 person who I once hurt and forgave me
*1 person that is shorter than me
*2 people that created me
*1 person that came in at the nick of time
And just so you know EXACTLY who your money is going towards, I've included this sweet video of my
precious girls singing me Happy Birthday. I just can't wait to get home & give them their present!
