Birthday Wish

Nashville, TN: As I sit in my home office (still in jammies), sipping on Breakfast Blend and listening to whatever ambient iTunes radio station I happened to click on, I realize today I must flip my calendar over to the next month.

Which means that in 18 days, I'll be turning 35.

HA! Actually, that was more of my face for 30. To be honest, mid 30s don't really scare me so much. I've set goals and accomplished. I've saved money and purchased. I've searched for love and found. What more could a girl ask for?

That is why, on my 35th year of life, I want to give back. Thanks to Facebook's "Birthday Wish" application, I am asking my friends (be it real friends or mere FB friends) to donate to Magdalene/Thistle Farms in honor of this next milestone.

In the words of, well, me:
"As most of you know, I have been volunteering at Magdalene/Thistle Farms for over two years. In that time, I've been fortunate enough to get to know the women of the program and see how love can truly change lives. Their courage and determination constantly amaze me and I am blessed to have found a community that is so accepting.

My birthday wish is to donate money to this organization to help cover the cost of their very basic needs (food, housing, medical care, therapy, transportation, education and job training) for the two years that a woman is welcomed to live in the residential community.

Instead of wishing me a happy birthday on my wall or buying me a gift, I encourage you to think about making a donation to Magdalene/Thistle Farms. If you'd rather not donate, consider going to www.thistlefarms.org and checking out the natural bath & body products handmade by the very women that benefit from the proceeds."
I've set a goal of $700, which would be 20 people each donating $35 (my age!). Within seconds of posting, I received my very first donation from Kristi, a fellow blogger I "met" on line over a year ago and actually MET in person in 2009. Thanks so much, K!

I'm hoping to reach my goal (and then some) by March 19th. I'm also reaching out to non-Facebookers too. Click HERE and you can donate directly!

Thanks in advance for making this birthday the best one yet.
