Charlie

On a plane somewhere between Toronto, ON and Saskatoon, SK  Canada:  A friend recently shared news of the fate of his dog, Charlie, with me. After many years of a good life -- being watched after and fed heartily and scratched and rubbed and loved on -- Charlie was old, sick, and unable to do much for himself anymore. It would only be days -- or maybe hours -- that Charlie would be with us.

I wanted to give my friend something that he could hold onto once Charlie was gone. A memory of the unconditional love he offered while he was here. I thought it might be fun to also capture the rest of Charlie's brothers and sister (all four of them!), together with their adoring master, so this moment in time would never be forgotten.

The results were sweet and chaotic, with lots of panting. Much like living with five dogs at once, I'm guessing. I've added an album to my website -- called Dogs -- and have also included some of Frank, who is now with a new family, but never forgotten.

And to sweet Charlie -- may he spend the last of his days on earth knowing what a good boy he was.
