My Little Life

.
Nashville, TN:  Tonight, my old friend, A, wanted me to go see her new friend, Korby Lenker, at The Basement.  She and Korby just met a few weeks ago, connected by the strange coincidence that they are from the same hometown (contrary to popular belief, Twin Falls, Idaho is not a common hub from which Nashvillians originate).  I like music, I like A, I like the fact that he was going on at 9pm (therefore done by 10pm) -- sure, why not?

After a lovely meal at The Yellow Porch, as part of Restaurant Week 2012 (though sans wine, I'm still not sure if the restaurant is as good as I remember it to have once been....), we headed to The Basement just in time to catch the end of musical act 1 to the beginning of musical act 2:  Korby.  I love arriving JUST in time and not having to wait through yet another OA. (I've been spoiled, what can I say.)

Korby is a mix between Jason Mraz and Anthony Michael Hall circa Sixteen Candles.  Quirky and chatty, Korby seemed slightly nervous on stage, until he started singing.  Then, he began doing what he's wanted to do his whole life (one would guess... or write in a good bio) and couldn't seem more comfortable in his own skin.

Best part of the set came at the very end where his band departed and Korby stood on a chair in the front of the stage.  With no mic, no amp and only a tiny guitar (otherwise known as a ukulele), he began singing one of the best songs I've heard in a while.  It was catchy, it was clever, it was cute.... and it was a great reminder that regardless of the things (or people) I have or don't have, it's my little life, which is all I've got.  (Which is actually not too shabby.)

Here's the travelin' version... picture this in a small club, on a chair, with crowd participation during the "do do do do's."  I've got more than a little love for this little song.
