Nashville, TN: One of the best features of the iPhone is the app. Not only are there mindless games, news sources and photography manipulation ideas, but there are some apps that actually make my job easier. With a few touches on the screen, I can save time & energy by a simple downloaded program in the palm of my hand.
I've decided to start a new feature on my blog (since I obviously don't have enough!) called TMA -- Tour Manager Apps. I was going to try and do it weekly, but realize I would stress myself out from the self-imposed pressure from yet another time-based theme. Instead, I'll keep a list (on my iPhone, of course) of interesting and helpful apps I discover or get turned on to and post... eventually. Or this may be my only one. Who knows! (Ed. note: This is me, throwing caution to the wind. Sad.)
The first TMA is Genius Scan. By using the iPhone's camera, you can take a picture of anything (receipt, hand-written note, parking lot space number at the airport, etc.). The app then acts as a scanner, turning the photo into a PDF or JEPG, which you can file into a folder on your phone and even email if you want. You can also tweet or facebook it, though I'm not sure why I'd want to post a copy of my receipt from the bar I went to last night online.
Here's a visual tutorial of the Genius Scan process:
App is added onto my home page of my iPhone.
Snap a picture of the receipt.
App captures the image, just like a regular photo.
The app then detects the corners of the piece of paper.
Then gives the option if you want to use that edit.
You can also drag the corners of the orange box to change as you like. |
Once cropped, the app enhances the receipt, giving it a better contrast. |
Wah-lah! Receipt is now scanned in your iPhone.
You can then create folders and pick where you would like it to be stored.

And there lives all of your receipts in one folder!
No more need for collecting small bits of paper
and bringing them home to try to find a place to put them. |
Best news? This app is free! But because it is going to save me TONS of shredding and wasted paper, I would have definitely paid $1.99 for it.
PS. Thanks to Rachel (aka TMerchel) for the recommendation!
