Valley Village, CA: Sometimes life just happens to you. One minute (A), you could be doing a certain thing, then without warning, you are in the midst of a change of direction you didn't see coming. Other times (B), you come upon an obvious fork in the road, and you head down a path that you didn't necessarily see happening, but you at least have a head's up about. If you are lucky, you even have time to plan and prepare for this change of course, in theory, making you completely ready for the next set chapter in your life.
My next chapter has been set up more like (B). I was asked to work on a project taping in LA for the fall, which I eagerly accepted because I love my boss & my job and how could I turn down a chance to explore a new career path, within the safe confines of someone I'm already comfortable with and respect? I've had a few months to mentally prepare and a few weeks to say a temporary goodbye to my friends who I won't see for a few weeks months.
I just got here five days ago and it's already been a whirlwind. I'm staying in a temporary place while I wait for the current guests of my soon-to-be-semi-permanent-place to pack up & get outta there. Although I just want to get settled into my fall home (and actually take my clothes out of my suitcases), this place is small and sweet and a fine jumping off point before I get settled into my new digs.
Plus, it made a peace offering with the rising California sun on my first morning. Very thoughtful & generous. (But I'm still living out of my suitcase, for the record.)
The next day I hit the ground running as I made my way to Hollywood for an event on the Walk of Fame. Granted, the paparazzi wasn't technically (or at all) there for me, but I did have a moment where I enjoyed the fact that there just happened to be paparazzi lined up the day after I arrived.
Coincidence? Abso-freaking-loutely.
Do I care? Hell no!
(And makes for a great instagram pic)
Day three, I went to the "office" which I will be frequenting five days a week for the next several weeks. This will probably be the biggest change (other than relocation) since it won't be like going into a new city and venue each day, but rather, an actual office on a daily schedule. It'll be interesting to see how it feels to have a more normal day to day routine... though still under the umbrella of entertainment.
Before I had any time to settle into LA life, I was on a plane to Monterey, CA for another work project over the weekend. But I still made time for a little personal enjoyment, including:
having dinner with friends who help me out with a
world I still don't fully understand,
overlooking the ocean from my hotel room,
And now I'm home, in my temporary-temporary home, sipping on Two Buck Chuck (I love you, California), listening to Drone Zone and waiting for my phone to ring.
I'm realizing that even as much as you can plan and prepare for a new path, you may end up doing the same thing you always do. After all, wherever you go, there you are.
Even if it's on the west coast.
