Valley Village, CA: It's been rainy here lately in Southern Cali. (Tony! Toni! Tone! are LIARS.) Plus, the sun sets at 4:52pm (thank you DST) so by the time I am back in my place after a long day at the 'office,' it feels like it's already 10pm when there's still hours to go. Coupled with working through the guts of my last blog, I've felt like I've battling a bit of low grade depression.
Depression, just like any other illness, means that sometimes you just need to sit in the sickness for a while and ride it out. But eventually, as you start to feel a teeny bit better, you realize that staying stationary isn't going to get you anywhere. You can't just hope to get better -- you've got to make adjustments that will lead to a healthier life; a better you.
*If you're exhausted all the time, go to bed earlier.
*If you're feeling like you don't have enough time for yourself, get up earlier.
*If you acting a little out of control, step back for a bit from the bottle.
*If you want to move out of shame, verbally vomit about it, post it on a blog and realize how much lighter you feel, now that it's out of your head.
Meditation in the Valley with a Thistle Farms Lemon Sage Candle, morning light and the willingness to be open to the universe.
I've recently complained about all four things above but finally decided to do something about them. Part of it is getting up early and doing a guided meditation by Deepak Chopra. It's free online (and on my iPhone), it's 15 minutes a day, it's for 21 days. Pretty simple to do -- the main challenge is the actual act of doing it. Although I generally enjoy mornings, forgoing an extra hour of sleep to meditate seems counterintuitive. However, once I complete the process each day, I feel more focused, more worthy, more... me, only better.
Life moves on whether you like it or not, but without your active participation, it's possible to just be a bystander without any real say-so in the matter. Take the time you need to tend to your sickness and lick your wounds, but realize it's up to you to be the change you want to see... and be.
I want to live passionately, intentionally and imperfectly; grateful for the abundance God has provided me. This morning, that starts with a mindfulness meditation.
