100 Little Pleasures of (Touring) Life: #48

.
Oklahoma City, OK: Sometimes sad, unexplained things happen. And while there's not anything you can do to make the situation different, there is something you can do to help the healing begin. In my case, I am lucky enough to a) work in an industry where music is used as a healer and b) work with a generous artist who is ready to give back in whichever way she can.

In under a week, I was told about the plans of a benefit concert hosted by Blake Shelton for victims of the Oklahoma tornados that devastated multiple lives and homes. In true native-Oklahoman-style, my boss jumped on board and together, we flew to Oklahoma City to participate.

After rehearsals, we drove by some of the affected areas and saw, first hand, the wreckage from the natural disaster. It was heartbreaking to think of the lives that were lost and the dreams that were damaged under the rubble.

Having this perspective put participating in a benefit concert that much more meaningful. So many amazing musicians were a part of the event, performing on stage as well as utilizing Facebook to make it easy for people to donate and help rebuild the area.

Additionally, other artists donated VIP items to be used as auction items to raise additional funds. From yesterday until June 3rd, you can bid on items from a variety of performers, including Reba, John Mayer, The Indigo Girls, Kenny Chesney and Brandi Carlile.

It's not a coincidence that I work or have worked with these people. I'm even more grateful that I can make one call and, without hesitation, everyone is ready to help out.

Which is why this:

#48: Using your power for good.

Is one of the 100 Little Pleasures of (Touring) Life.

And there's still time to help. You can Text REBUILD to 52000 or visit the United Way Facebook page through today. Or you can bid on an auction item on the eBay store through June 3rd. Or you can contact United Way directly and find out other ways to help.

Here's your chance to use your power for good.
