Austin, TX: I've been acquiring a few new apps here and there but none have really blown my mind and/or improved my life on the road significantly enough to deem a TMA. Well, that and I use the same few apps so often that I have simply forgotten to mention them here. Maybe I need to make my own app to remind myself to post. Though I doubt there's a way an app would actually make me do it.
I'm taking a bit of liberty by turing this into a "TMA-lite post" since it's not technically an app you download. Maybe I'll call it a TMET -- "Tour Manager Electronic Trick?" Then again, maybe I should stop with the acronyms while I'm ahead.
While at a show, I carry a copy of the artist's set list with me. I use it as a quick reference as to where we are in the show, so I know where I need to be at that particular moment. Thanks to whichever cargo skirt I'm wearing, I have multiple pockets to hold said list, but if I need to know which song is coming up next in a pinch, rifling through my pockets, unfolding the paper and scanning the sheet to correlate with the accompanying lyrics can sometimes be a challenge.
The quick solution? The Lock Screen Set List.
1. take a scan of the set list (using the Genius Scan app)
2. save as a jpeg
3. change it as the background on your lock screen
(Settings >
Brightness & Wallpaper >
Wallpaper >
choose from camera roll >
move and scale to your preference >
Set Lock Screen).
That way, anytime you need to catch a quick peek, simply click the top right lock button on your iPhone (which you're probably already holding in your hand anyway) and wah-lah! Instant access to where-in-the-hell-they-are-in-the-show.
Or, more importantly, where-in-the-hell-you-need-to-be-at-that-moment-in-the-show.
